What Is Dune Analytics?
Also known as: Dune
In short
Dune Analytics is an on-chain data analytics platform where users can examine blockchain data from Ethereum and many other networks with SQL queries and publicly share the results as charts and dashboards.
Dune turns raw blockchain data into queryable data tables. Smart contract events and function calls are decoded using the contracts' interface definitions (ABI); this way, users can query, for example, swaps on a specific DEX or the sales of an NFT collection as readable columns. Standardized tables prepared by the community that cover multiple protocols also make analysis easier.
The platform's distinguishing feature is its community focus. Analysts publish the queries and dashboards they write publicly; others can copy and improve on them. This makes it possible to quickly track metrics such as a protocol's user count, trading volume, fee revenue or the distribution of an airdrop. Advanced features and API access are offered through paid plans.
The figures on Dune dashboards depend on the query logic of the person who prepared them; faulty filters or missing contract definitions can lead to misleading results. For this reason, before drawing important conclusions, it is useful to examine the query's source and compare the data with other tools.
