What Is REKT?
Also known as: Rekt, Wrecked, Get Rekt
In short
REKT is jargon derived from the slang spelling of the English word 'wrecked', used in the cryptocurrency community to describe an investor or project suffering heavy losses, for example by being liquidated or attacked.
The term crossed over from gaming culture and internet forums to the cryptocurrency community. When a trader's leveraged position is closed out by the price moving the opposite way, people say they 'got rekt'. The phrase 'get rekt' is usually used in a mocking tone to emphasize that someone has lost money. After sharp declines, screenshots of liquidated positions are often shared on social media with this tag.
The word is not used only for individual investors. Attacks, exploits, and collapses involving DeFi protocols are also described as 'rekt'. There are also independent publications that examine such incidents and rank them by amount lost; these are among the sources used to build security awareness in the industry.
The REKT concept is a cultural element that recalls the cryptocurrency market's high volatility and the risk of leveraged trading. Losing a position entirely often comes from risk management mistakes such as high leverage, not using a stop-loss order, or concentrating capital in a single asset.
