What Is Fiat On-Ramp?
Also known as: On-Ramp, Fiat Gateway, Fiat-to-Crypto On-Ramp, Crypto On-Ramp
In short
A fiat on-ramp is the general name for services that convert fiat currencies such as the Turkish lira, dollar, or euro into cryptocurrency; crypto exchanges, payment providers, and in-wallet purchase tools fall into this category.
The user sends fiat money by methods such as bank transfer, EFT, or a debit or credit card; the service provider transfers the selected cryptocurrency to the user's account or wallet in exchange for that amount. In the opposite direction, services that convert crypto to fiat and withdraw it to a bank account are called fiat off-ramps. Centralized crypto exchanges serve as both an on-ramp and an off-ramp for most users.
On-ramp services are subject to strict regulation because they are the connection point between the crypto ecosystem and the traditional financial system. Providers generally apply know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) rules. In Turkey, platforms that intermediate crypto trading are subject to the permission and supervision of the Capital Markets Board (SPK) as crypto asset service providers under Law No. 7518.
For the user, fees, transaction limits, transfer times, and the difference between the buy and sell price (spread) can vary significantly from provider to provider. For this reason, it is important to compare the total cost and to check the platform's legal authorization.
